Read Write Inc- info for parents
This week we will be starting Read Write Inc lessons, Mrs Butler and Mrs Jacobs have been very busy testing the children from Year 1 upwards to see which group they need to be in, the children will be told which group they are in on Monday morning, they will be in these groups for 2 weeks and then they will be re-tested in the third week and put into new groups.
Read Write Inc is a phonics program, you should have all had letters about it at the end of the summer term and further information last week. In my group we will be going over initial sounds, this is to fill in any gaps that the children have in their phonic knowledge- it will help with their reading, spelling and writing.
Once the children have been re-tested they will be re-grouped and will learn more sounds- there are 44 sounds in the English language and there are over 150 different ways of writing them!! As well as learning new sounds the children will be reading and doing comprehension work using Read Write Inc. We will be giving the children home reading books from the reading schemes currently in school but these have to be re-levelled to match the sounds that the children have learnt, consequently we have not sent out home reading books yet- please encourage your child to read at home in the mean time- it doesn't matter what they read!!
